The public baths (or thermae), very close to the forum, very likely date back to the beginning of our era. The excavations have uncovered the hot bath (caldarium), the cold bath (frigidarium) and the tepidarium which provided a transition between them, its floor decorated with a mosaic of geometrical design which can be seen in the Museum.
The baths were an indispensable part of social life in all Roman or Romanized towns and provided relaxation, a place to meet and body care facilities. Both men and women frequented them, but different establishments or admission times were reserved for the two sexes.
