On Pompeii's walls: "tags" that say a lot about Roman lives!

By Rudolf Wachter, professor of historical linguistics at the Universities of Basel and Lausanne

Health measures will be respected, don't hesitate to ask our staff about them.

Ancient Pompeii is known for its graffiti, engraved or painted inscriptions preserved on the city's walls. Their subject, not always appropriate (!), concern almost every aspect of Roman life. They give unique intakes on current questions about what life may be in a Roman town at the beginning of our era. The author, who just published a commented translation of 1500 inscriptions, invites the public to discover some of these fascinating texts!

The conference will be followed by a friendly brunch at the Café Ex Machina.

CHF 33.- /person (brunch included). Conference given in French. Inscription required until 20 August (+41 (0)22 316 42 80 OR Reduced price for the members of the AMN.
