Amphithéâtre ?: opening of the second phase of the exhibition
Thursday 12 March - 19H30
FREE ADMISSION AND NO REGISTRATION
The Roman Museum of Nyon invites you to the opening of the second phase of the evolving exhibition “Amphitheatre?”, to be held on Thursday March 12 at 7:30 pm at the museum.
Dedicated to Nyon’s Roman amphitheatre, the exhibition explores the history of this emblematic monument: its construction, location, age and the reasons for its burial. It also looks at the function of the amphitheatre and the shows that took place there, including the place of animals, gladiators and women in the arena.
In this second phase, the exhibition is enriched by new content revolving around the monument’s preservation and enhancement project. Visitors will be able to discover the approach envisaged to preserve this exceptional heritage while making it accessible to the public.
This new section also features interviews and videos dedicated to discovering the site and the issues involved in developing it.
The amphitheatre will be designed as a living archaeological park, fully integrated into the city, open to encounters, transmission and contemplation. In this way, the project will make a lasting contribution to the everyday life of the people of Nyons.
The scenography will emphasize an immersive, educational approach. A mediation area will welcome groups, classes and conferences. The whole will offer great flexibility of use, without altering the existing site.
Alexandra Spühler, the museum’s new curator, will speak at the opening, which will be followed by an aperitif.
