Restore to preserve

Caring for the remains

Excavations at the Nyon amphitheatre have unearthed over 380 limestone architectural blocks. Most came from the facing of the podium surrounding the arena. Having been abandoned for over 1700 years, they have suffered and restoration work is necessary to guarantee their preservation.

Our restorers and conservators work meticulously to maintain the stone blocks. Each intervention respects the original materials and preserves the integrity of the ancient structure. Specialists use techniques adapted to the condition of the blocks, from surface cleaning to consolidation of the most fragile structures.

Despite this painstaking work, the blocks must remain in a stable environment to prevent further deterioration. They are currently stored at the Museum Collection Center in Nyon.
