Roman Museum of Nyon – Colonia Iulia Equestris

One site, one museum

Marked by its thousand-year-old history, the town of Nyon offers visitors a wide range of cultural activities. This guide will help you discover the remains of the Roman city of Nyon. Colonia Iulia Equestris – buried beneath the present-day city, and offers a rich overview of the objects preserved in the Roman Museum, housed in the foundations of the1st-century AD forum basilica. This book is an updated and expanded version of the first edition of the guide, published in 2003. Since then, the museum’s layout has been redesigned, and its collections have been updated to incorporate recent discoveries made on the site. The archaeological investigations carried out in recent years, mainly on the outskirts of the monumental center, have altered our perception of the Roman city, giving it a scale that was previously barely perceptible.
