What’s up, Doc?

Medicine and health in Roman times

Under the patronage of Hippocrates, the Roman Museum follows in the footsteps of doctors and their patients in Roman times… What happened when you fell ill? Who do you turn to for treatment? What was the status of the doctor at a time when no official diploma sanctioned medical training? How do we understand how the body works? What therapeutic means were available? A series of recent research and archaeological discoveries are providing new insights into ancient medical practices, their failures and successes.

This publication was issued to coincide with theexhibition.
