With its municipal status, the Roman Museum corresponds exactly to the definition of an archaeological site museum. It answers to Nyon's Service de la Culture and is officially recognised by the Canton de Vaud as being in charge of preserving and showcasing archaeological material from the Roman period found in the district of Nyon.
The Museum was opened in 1979 and has undergone a number of changes, including an extension in 1993 and the complete renovation of its permanent exhibition in 2009. Its collections are constantly enriched by new discoveries as a result of intense activity in the area of archaeological research which has unlocked, little by little, the secrets of the Roman town.
The Roman Museum celebrated its 40th Birthday. An ideal opportunity to celebrate, whilst putting forth a few monuments of the Roman past of Nyon, using digital technology!
