Tours and events

THE MUSEUM'S COLLECTIONS

Age: 6-18 years. Duration: 1h (CHF 120.-) or 1h30 (CHF 150.-)
A visit to the museum, either in general or on a theme related to the subjects studied in class.

For example:

  • From birth to death: the cycle of life in ancient times.
  • From garden to plate: a horticultural and culinary journey through antiquity.
  • Vines and wine: discovering a beverage that was already appreciated by our ancestors.
  • Economy and finance: the foundations of the complex economic system of the Roman era, where taxes, coinage and general administration seem strangely modern.

The temporary exhibition “Amphitheatre” can also be included at the end of the visit.

Visit to the "Amphitheatre?

Age: 6-18 years. Duration: 1 hour (CHF 120.-)

Guided tour of the museum’s temporary exhibition, rediscovering one of Nyon’s most important ancient buildings: its amphitheatre. What did people do in an amphitheatre? What does the one in Nyon look like? Have any other monuments of this type been found in Switzerland? Nyon’s amphitheatre will hold no more secrets for our students.

Visit the "Amphitheatre" exhibition and discover the site

Age: 6-18 years. Duration: 1h30 (CHF 150.-)

To complement the exhibition, you can discover the amphitheatre in situ. The monument is a 10-minute walk from the Roman Museum. Unfortunately, it is not accessible to people with reduced mobility.

NYON/NOVIODUNUM, FROM DISCOVERY TO DISCOVERY

Age: 8-18 years. Duration: 1h30. CHF 150.00
A walk through the streets of Nyon in the footsteps of ancient remains, followed by a visit to the museum. Little by little, the Roman face of Nyon is revealed: basilica, forum, covered market, thermal baths, amphitheatre… As the capital of Colonia Iulia Equestris, the remains of Noviodunum reveal that the colony was modelled on Rome.

WHO IS JULES CÉSAR?

Age: 6-8 years. Duration: 1 hour. CHF 120.00
A playful tour designed for the youngest visitors, like a story being told. It’s based on models, images and mime. It concludes with a session of Roman-style games.

BREAD AND CIRCUSES

Age: 8-10 years. Duration: 2 hours. CHF 120 + educational booklet: CHF 10

A new educational activity on the world of entertainment in the Roman Empire. Students discover the history of gladiators, amphitheaters and the games that took place there, using the Nyon arena as an example and the artefacts discovered there.

During the activity, the class is divided into two groups, who take turns discovering the exhibition, equipped with a discovery booklet, and the amphitheater.

Activities mainly for 5P and 6P (8-10 year-olds)

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEYS

Age: 8-12; from 13. Duration: 1h30. CHF 120 + educational booklet: price to be determined. Educational animation.

Let’s discover the habits of our ancestors at Colonia Iulia Equestris. Students are divided into several groups, each with their own questionnaire. Using the information provided by the guide, the museum collections and archaeological objects, they will answer the questions put to them. In this way, the activity reveals the Roman past through regional finds, just as a real archaeologist would.
