Amphitheatre?

Since its discovery in 1996, the Nyon amphitheatre has sparked interest and raised many questions. With the exhibition ‘Amphitheatre?’, the Roman Museum aims to offer explanations, answers and perspectives on the building’s past, present and future. For the duration of the exhibition, it also provides a base for the project to enhance the monument, which is currently progressing significantly following the approval of a study grant by the Municipal Council in August 2022.

The exhibition explores the amphitheatre through a series of questions. It examines, in turn, its construction, location, age and burial, its function, and the role of animals, gladiators and women in the arena. A selection of blocks, inscriptions, coins and small objects found on the site are displayed and explained in light of archaeological finding.

The exhibition, which opened in 2024, is now complemented by a presentation on the current status of the project to preserve and showcase the monument. The Municipality will submit a funding request to the Municipal Council for approval during the second half of 2026.
