Amphitheatre?

Since its discovery in 1996, the Nyon amphitheater has sparked interest and raised many questions. With the exhibition “Amphitheater?”, the Roman Museum aims to provide explanations, answers, and food for thought on the building’s past, present, and future. For the duration of the exhibition, it will also serve as the hub for the project to enhance the monument, which is undergoing remarkable progress following the study grant approved by the Municipal Council in August 2022.

The exhibition explores the amphitheater through a series of questions. It examines, in turn, its construction, location, age, and burial; its function; and the role of animals, gladiators, and women in the arena.

A selection of stone blocks, inscriptions, coins, and small objects found at the site are displayed and explained based on the findings of archaeologists.

“Amphitheater?” Part 2

Since March 12, 2026, the exhibition has featured a second section dedicated to the project to preserve and showcase the Nyon amphitheater. Discover the planned developments aimed at preserving the ruins, opening the site to the public, and transforming it into a vibrant archaeological park that encourages exploration and interaction.

This presentation explores the architectural, landscape, and scenographic aspects of the project, with the goal of integrating the monument into the daily lives of the people of Nyon while preserving its authenticity. Interviews and videos also look back on the discovery of the site and the challenges related to its preservation and enhancement.
